Dior Vernis Apparat 871 (Holiday 2011 Les Rouges Or Collection)

Dior Apparat 871 Vernis Nail Polish Bottle

I nodded in approval as I looked up the word Apparat to mean “pageantry” in French.

Not that Dior needs my approval, but the Vernis with the name certainly reminded me of an elaborate display or ceremony. This ceremony, however, is more romantic and sultry instead of familial. The combination of gold and burgundy mixes into a complex, glowing hue that’s a grown-up version of the classic holiday red.

Much like we observed with Dior Exquis, the golden swirls in the bottle somehow distributes evenly across the nails as tiny flecks of shimmer. The orangey burgundy in the bottle is replaced by rich, bordeaux red that reminds me of red velvet cake. It’s such a sultry color that I’m ashamed to have even thought of the possibility of it turning out to be a frosty, dated, grandmotherly metallic nail polish. :P

Its formula is what I’ve come to expect from Dior; creamy, smooth, and opaque in 2 coats. One caveat is that it seems to take slightly longer than an average Dior Vernis to dry. Because of this, it’s prone to “pulling” and causing bald patches in the previous coat if it’s not completely dry by the time you apply another coat. I’d wait a few extra minutes than usual to apply the 2nd coat.

Isn’t it absolutely stunning under direct light? The primarily gold shimmer truly comes alive and restores some of that burgundy bottle color onto the nails. The result is a splash of amber-red radiance in the center with the edges remaining dark. Nails look as if they’re glowing on their own. Yup, it’s another winner that has me stealing glances at it all day long.

The limited edition Apparat (USD $22) is sensual and vampy, yet is very festive and perfect for a grown-up take on the holiday red. It’s currently available online at Dior.com and at Dior Beauty boutiques and counters worldwide.

  1. That is very intriguing! I definitely like the burgundy (xmas on the nail) much more than the bronze/brown (Thanksgiving turkey) in the bottle.

    • Isn’t it? I like the surprise element, but I can see many people giving this a pass based on the bottle alone. It makes me want to try shades I’ve thought had less-than-pleasing bottle colors in the past. :P

  2. It looks great under direct light! I am a little disappointed that the gold shimmer isn’t a bit more obvious, though. I went back and forth but I ended up getting Merveille at my shopping trip this week instead because of that reason, even though the darker red of Apparat is a little more appealing to me and is more unique in my collection.

    • It’s really stunning under the light! It seems the gold shimmer acts in much the same way for all the colors in this collection. It’d be interesting to see the gold really show up…I demand another gold collection. :D I like that it makes the polishes so luminous gives them that lit-from-within look.

Merveille looks so gorgeous! Did you end up with the Le Metier de Beaute sets?

      • I decided on the LMdB “Rock n Romance” Nordstrom exclusive. I also picked up Dior Tuxedo as it had come to Sephora and I’ve become quite the Dior convert! I checked out the LMdB holiday sets and I liked Merry Metallics very very much, but I didn’t get it because I felt that I had spent my polish budget for the day :). Not to worry, I’ll either go back for it myself or ask for it for Christmas.

        • Ooo, I’m so envious of Rock n Romance! Tuxedo is a great choice…sexy, shiny blue. Perhaps Santa will be kind to me and bring me the holiday LMdB sets too. :D

  3. Gorgeous! I wasn’t too crazy about the other 2, but this one is fabulous!

  4. Exquis and this one are my favorite in this collection :)

  5. WOW!!!! your nails are gorgeous!!!!!! so does the polish :)

  6. This is soooo pretty on you. Now I have to add it to my wishlist!

What say you?
