Dior Vernis Apparat 871 (Holiday 2011 Les Rouges Or Collection)

I nodded in approval as I looked up the word Apparat to mean “pageantry” in French.
Not that Dior needs my approval, but the Vernis with the name certainly reminded me of an elaborate display or ceremony. This ceremony, however, is more romantic and sultry instead of familial. The combination of gold and burgundy mixes into a complex, glowing hue that’s a grown-up version of the classic holiday red.
Much like we observed with Dior Exquis, the golden swirls in the bottle somehow distributes evenly across the nails as tiny flecks of shimmer. The orangey burgundy in the bottle is replaced by rich, bordeaux red that reminds me of red velvet cake. It’s such a sultry color that I’m ashamed to have even thought of the possibility of it turning out to be a frosty, dated, grandmotherly metallic nail polish.
Its formula is what I’ve come to expect from Dior; creamy, smooth, and opaque in 2 coats. One caveat is that it seems to take slightly longer than an average Dior Vernis to dry. Because of this, it’s prone to “pulling” and causing bald patches in the previous coat if it’s not completely dry by the time you apply another coat. I’d wait a few extra minutes than usual to apply the 2nd coat.
Isn’t it absolutely stunning under direct light? The primarily gold shimmer truly comes alive and restores some of that burgundy bottle color onto the nails. The result is a splash of amber-red radiance in the center with the edges remaining dark. Nails look as if they’re glowing on their own. Yup, it’s another winner that has me stealing glances at it all day long.
The limited edition Apparat (USD $22) is sensual and vampy, yet is very festive and perfect for a grown-up take on the holiday red. It’s currently available online at Dior.com and at Dior Beauty boutiques and counters worldwide.
