Julep Nail Vernis Michelle

Julep Michelle Nail Vernis Bottle

There’s something so prim and proper about Julep Michelle.

That’s not a bad thing; it reminds me of uniforms or a smart blazer and when on the nails, it gives hands a lady-like sophistication without going the classic soft pink route.

It must have been named after a Michelle who exudes confidence, but not in an in-your-face manner. She’s a girl who is calm, collected and in control. :)

Michelle is a dark navy  blue creme with a hint of dustiness. You won’t find a defining grey cast, but it’s not as vivid as a straight navy. Because of this, it’s “quiet” for a dark color and can work on a variety of skin tones. It seems to make my warm-toned skin appear more pale and even.

From my experience, Julep does cremes best. Michelle is very pigmented and creamy, and I didn’t have any trouble with potentially flooding the cuticles or having to cover up bald patches. One coat was almost enough and I applied two as usual. The finish is shiny even without a top coat, though it looks slightly more flat compared to non-dusty cremes.

If I were to compare this to another blue I’ve featured thus far, it would be Chanel Blue Rebel. They are both a smidgen dusty, with Michelle being much darker and less blue. I can’t get the word “classic” out of my mind when describing Michelle. It’s great to find a straight navy that doesn’t lean indigo as many blues do.

Availability: $14 on Julep.com. I received my bottle as part of the Julep Maven Membership Program. Read my Julep Maven review here and join here. (Disclosure: these are referral links that provide me $15 Julep credit when you join Julep Maven.)

P.S. Do you have any plans for holiday-themed nails? I keep seeing so many cute nail art ideas and am wondering what to sport!

  1. Very pretty on you! And it really makes your skin look paler.
    I like it, so classy!!!

  2. This is soooo pretty! Need it!

  3. Your nails are so perfect! You’re right, this is a very classic color…reminds me of blazers and uniforms, too.

  4. I can’t believe those swatches are without topcoat – they are so glossy!

    • Oops, I want to clarify that the above photos are with top coat since I always use one to finish a manicure. But even without it, Michelle has a very shiny finish!

  5. I have yet to try this! At first I thought it would be another “blue” like Chanel. However it is much much darker, but without being vampy. You’ve described it so well.

As for holiday season, I think silver or gold would be very classic without going overboard. There are some nail art polish that are water based, so any mistakes can be corrected without removing the basecoat.

    • I didn’t know you have it! Do give it a try; since you like Blue Boy, I think you’ll like this one, too.

I didn’t know there are water-based nail art polishes! They are ones with thin brushes, right? I know many use acrylic paint to draw. I’m definitely thinking of going the simple metallic route. :D

  6. your nails and fingers are awesome looking! I NEED to try Julep now, they look like really good polishes

  7. This is stunning on you! I’ve only tried 3 Julep colors, but so far their creme and metallic formulas have been fantastic!

  8. What a pretty dusky blue! You’re right, this is a very classic colour. I have a couple of navy polishes, but nothing like this. It’s bold in an understated way, does that make sense?

My favourite thing about navy colours is the way it makes the skin look white in a very pretty, wintery way. It took me a few years after school to be able to wear it in clothing though, because it was my uniform colour for most of my life, however I am willingly wearing it since this year.

It’s a quietly confident colour and I think it’s great on nails. Do you know of anything similar, that has the same dustiness to it? Looks great on you, as always!

    • Hi Leila! Exactly, it’s “quietly confident!” I love that! I understand about not wanting to wear certain colors. My uniform was plaid and that’s one pattern I’ve long avoided. :P

Other than Michelle being a darker version of Chanel Blue Rebel, a similar one might be Dior Bond Street or Blue Label. I haven’t taken photos of those, so I’ll have to report back to you!

      • Oh I remember about Bond Street now. Karlasugar did a post about it in the summer. You’re right, I think it might be similar. It’s be nice to hear how they compare though, since you have both in your collection.

  9. Wow! It looks like a very high quality polish! :-)

  10. Holy CRAP! Is there ANY nail polish you don’t make look just stunning? I really love Michelle and your photos are just to die for. ♥

What say you?
