Athletes Love Nail Art at the 2012 London Olympics

Over the years, we’ve seen a few select athletes sport well-manicured tips at the Games, but I can’t be the only one who has noticed a sudden influx of nail art in all sorts of designs and colors for the 2012 London Olympics.
So what exactly changed between the Beijing Olympics and now?
The answer came, surprisingly, from The Wall Street Journal. (Yes, The Wall-freaking Street Journal.)
“Salons built inside the Olympic Village and another in central London are cranking out killer nails at no cost.”
FREE nail art for the athletes? Who wouldn’t get their nails done in between workouts and games? Bonus points if they get to display the colorful tips holding a medal.
This is such an ingenious idea that I’m almost willing to forgive them for their less-than-thrilling opening ceremony. Almost.
Never mind that this piece of info coming from the WSJ is as odd to me as if TMZ were to cover the Libor financial crisis, I found out other news sites that normally never focus on beauty, much less nails, were all over these nails as well.
I’m in awe of the nails (and photos) below!
I wonder if longer nails mean faster swimming.
You know, with the nails acting as mini oars…
