Julep Maven Box #15: October 2012 It Girl (Simply Bewitching)

Julep Maven October 2012 It Girl Box Simply Bewitching Caroline Leslie Glenda

This month, all but one Maven profile included a crackle nail polish and Julep fans were furious with disappointment. Many expressed their dislike for crackle on Julep’s Facebook page, noting that the trend had long passed (I agree — I was never on the trend, however) and that the company took a step backward when they were expected to provide on-trend colors in their Maven program.

Well, Julep listened. Within a day of revealing the October colors, they released a new style called Maven’s Choice which took the 3 crèmes from American Beauty, Boho Glam, and Bombshell profiles into a bundle:

Bravo, Julep! There was an influx of people “skipping” the month, but switched to Maven’s Choice instead. Win-win situation!

As for me? You know how much I love crèmes, but in the end, I was intrigued by the two non-crackle polishes in It Girl that I kept my original profile. I wanted more autumn/Halloween colors as opposed to 4th of July!

Top to bottom: Julep Caroline, Leslie, Glenda

Included in the October 2012 Simply Bewitching It Girl box (descriptions via Julep):

  • Caroline – darkest burgundy shimmer
  • Leslie - black and silver specked shimmer
  • Glenda – radiant silver metallic crackle

As you know, each nail polish retails for $14, so for $19.99 for the set, I’m still satisfied even if I don’t like the silver crackle. (And only because I’m just not a fan of the look — not the fault of the polish itself.)

Julep Maven October 2012 It Girl Box Extras

There were some cute extras — a bag of candy corn, (ooh…imported candy! ;) They even included an ingredients list.) and two pots of orange and black glitter.

I love that the glitter pots have the Julep emblem on them, plus there is an inner seal so that glitter won’t go everywhere even if the lid becomes loose. Details like that impress me. :)

Julep posted a simple how-to on using these glitter pots on their blog. It looks fun, albeit a bit messy! :D

  1. Wow, I feel really embarrassed that I un-skipped in excitement to see crackle nail polish this month… by default I usually skip because I have plenty of nail polish already and can’t justify buying more, but I had never gotten on the crackle trendwagon in the first place so I was refreshed to see something that at least I didn’t already own.

I guess I’m just not very fashionable :/ I don’t even follow trends of being annoyed at companies for not being on trend.

  2. I still skipped October; I wasn’t feeling the crackle or the colors in the Maven’s Choice box. I did really appreciate being given the option, though! Hope the next month is good; I’ve missed getting a box.

Have you ever had candy corn before??? I think it’s super gross but some people really like it.

  3. Ooo I love that shiny red polish. It’s perfect for a Xmas party! Yeah, I wasn’t into the crackle polish trend and that was so yesterday…good that Julep fans spoke up! I love the packaging – it’s like a lip gloss!

What say you?
