Dior Vernis Gris Trianon 306 (Trianon Grey Spring 2013 Chérie Bow Collection)

Dior Gris Trianon 306 Vernis Bottle

In a collection full of pink, pink, and more pink, Dior Gris Trianon is the black (well, grey) sheep that everyone had their eyes on in the Spring 2013 Chérie Bow collection. Despite light grey being one of Dior’s iconic colors, the brand had been parsimonious in releasing nail polishes in this shade…until now. :)

Can grey be a “nude” color? In this case, I think so, and this seems to be the perfect one. Gris Trianon is a light dove grey crème with a warm beige undertone. Application starts sheer on the first coat, but built up to full opacity on the second coat.

When I first applied Gris Trianon, it looked like a slate grey, in the bottle and on the nails. But placing it next to Gris Montaigne, which is much more neutral (and also much darker), you can clearly see the warmth of Gris Trianon. It has a beige or even mauve undertone depending on the lighting.

This warm undertone complements the skin, which is why I’m calling this a “nude grey.” It blends nicely with the skin, in the best way that a grey can. :)

What do you think of Gris Trianon? Do you have a favorite grey nail polish?

Availability: USD $24 on Dior.com and at Dior counters worldwide.

  1. OK, I was sitting on the fence, but I’m gonna go get this :-)

  2. Grays are by far my preferred nudes. I have a lot of grays and I LOVE most of them! Across the shade spectrum my favorites are probably China Glaze Concrete Catwalk (darkest), Dior Gris Montaigne, and Deborah Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas (lightest). I can see Gris Trianon slipping in between Gris Montaigne and Waking Up in Vegas in my line-up of favored grays :).

    • Ooh, thanks for sharing your favorites! Deborah Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas look very similar to this in undertone from the swatches I see. I never knew a light grey could be so flattering. :)

  3. looks surprisingly flattering on you (given my initial thoughts that gray wouldn’t look nice on nails!) :)

  4. now that reminds me to dig out my one and only grey, CG recycle from my polish cabinet… greys are lovely, but I don’t think they are always released as a polish colour and it always reminds me of the busy busy cities!

    • Busy busy cities, like…smog? XP CG Recycle looks like a great cement grey! I agree, it’s not often that we see greys released, and I rarely see grey nails when I’m out and about!

      • I think most Asians much prefers their soft, ladylike colours, or they go neutral nude beige kind of colours, at least when I read Japanese magazines that’s what look like it. Koreans on the other hand have a brighter selection of colours, with lotsa glitters and blings. The Westerns seems to be the most adventurous with colours though… I don’t think I have seen an Asian brand releasing grey nail polish… but I might be wrong!

        • I don’t think I have, either! I see about half-and-half in Japan. On one hand, you have people who prefer ladylike colors like you said, but mainly because many work in corporate offices with strict dress codes. On the other, super elaborate bling-bling nails are definitely still popular! :) I would love to try it if it didn’t involve getting gel nails. I agree, Western brands make far more adventurous colors, and those are trends are trickling into Asia as a result.

  5. What a lovely taupe shade – your nails look phenomenal!

  6. This is such a beautiful grey on you peach! I think Dior has really pulled off a perfect grey that warmer skin tones can pull off without looking “dirty”. There aren’t that many greys around, so I might get this one. It certainly fits right in with the collection, greys and pinks together are beautiful.

I finally bought my first proper Dior Vernis! (You know, not including the non-standard Christmas limited editions.) I bought Rosy Bow from the spring collection and Saint-Tropez from last summer. They are lovely. I now have a little list of colours I want to buy.

After swatching Tutu and comparing it to a similar colour I have at home (I do this a lot!), I’ve decided I want that one too. Just going for all the colours in the collection now! I still wish we got the Dior in Bloom vernis over here. They are the perfect pink and lilac.

  7. Essie’s Chinchilly is a twin sister to Gris Trianon !!!

  8. I like this Gris Trianon :3 !!

What say you?
